Treating Toddlers

Offering the most comprehensive services in the area.

Our Services
Speech Therapy
We provide speech-language therapy from toddlers to adults to build clear speech, comprehension, and expression. Our team treats articulation issues, late language, stuttering, and voice disorders. Personalized sessions lead to real-world progress in classrooms, workplaces, and social settings.
Orofacial myology
We help toddlers through adults correct dysfunctional oral-motor patterns by training the tongue and facial muscles to work together. Through progressive exercises and habit re-education, we promote stable tongue posture and better muscle control. This supports healthy orofacial growth, clearer speech, and natural breathing and chewing patterns.
MEET NANCY
Nancy thrives on difficult cases especially correcting resistant speech articulation disorders such as /r/ distortion or frontal and lateral lisp patterns. She also enjoys seeing patients improve their oral muscle harmony which then results in improved swallowing, speech and sleep patterns. The root causes of a speech disorder may have nothing to do with the voice, pitch, or how the brain processes information. It may be related to the muscles in the face, mouth, jaw, lips or tongue. Another area that she is an expert in is working with orthodontic relapse cases. Over the years she has found by improving the oral muscle patterns that the teeth will often move back into place. Too often speech-language pathologists do not have the proper training in the area of orofacial myofunctional disorders. Her view is that every individual seeking speech articulation therapy needs to have a full orofacial myofunctional assessment to assure that the origin of the perceived problem at hand is being addressed. Nancy’s thorough orofacial myofunctional evaluation, extreme expertise with differential diagnosis and complete treatment plans (often including other specialists) could help get you moving in the right direction. Nancy has been an IAOM (International Association of Orofacial Myology) Certified Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist since 2002 and is well trained to help with the most challenging cases. She has been an examiner/mentor to many professionals seeking the certification in orofacial myology for over 12 years. She can’t wait to help you or your family members.

THE APPROACH
Nancy Magar is the Speech-Language Pathologist who will investigate all patients that she evaluates to get to the "root causes" of the problems presented. She sold her private practice of 22 years in January 2024 where she kept the legacy of the Myofunctional Clinic of Bellevue going since it was established in 1973. Over her 22 years in private practice, Nancy Magar made a name for her expertise and became the number one referral source for orofacial myofunctional and speech articulation disorders for dentists, orthodontists, speech-language pathologists and other related medical professionals in the greater Seattle, Washington area.
Nancy has enjoyed Florida since her move in February, 2024 and is now realizing she is not ready to completely retire as she wants to continue making an impact in children and adult’s lives. Over the years she became used to hearing comments such as:
"I wish I had known that."
"Why didn’t the pediatrician or speech-language pathologist ever mention my child had a tongue-tie?"
"After years of speech therapy my child moves his mouth strangely when he talks."
"My 16 year old had braces removed last year but now he has an open bite worse than when he started."
"I had orthognathic surgery and my teeth have relapsed."
"Why was my child in speech therapy at her school for 7 years and she still does not produce her /r/ correctly?"
"Why didn't my physician refer me to a sleep specialist to further explore my symptoms of Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS) including mouth breathing, snoring, teeth grinding, morning headaches, feeling unrefreshed on waking, and morning headaches? "
"Why was my son in feeding therapy for 9 years and no one taught him how to chew?"
"Why didn’t my dentist tell me that night bruxism could be a sign of sleep apnea?"
"Why did my orthodontist put a bulky oral appliance to stop my tongue thrust which now is causing troubles with proper chewing and closing my lips?"
"My 8 year old was just diagnosed with ADHD and my physician did not mention that a sleep study could be beneficial to assure the hyperactivity and behavorial outbursts during the day are not due to sleep fragmentation."

Nancy is a seasoned professional with decades of experience in myofunctional therapy. Her approach surpasses that of the typical speech pathologist, because she looks diligently into structural and physiological aspects that impact functions such as speech, breathing, chewing, and swallowing. She constantly observed and adapted her techniques to meet my child's needs, including helping them pronounce the challenging 'R' sound for the first time. Nancy's dedication to her work, delightful humor and approachable demeanor made us trust and love her as a provider. We'll miss her now that she's relocated, but we're so grateful to have crossed paths!A.B.
I have worked as an orthodontist sharing patients with Nancy for over 20 years. Not only has she helped my patients learn to train habits, but she has also taught me so many things about myofunctional therapy. It is a joy to work with her and make people smile even better.Barton Soper, DDS, MS
I started seeing Nancy when my son was 5 years old. He was severely tongue tied and had very low mobility of his tongue. He couldn't move his tongue upwards and to the right side. We had feeding and speech issues due to this. She guided us through the process of having the tongue tie release done and how to properly start orthodontic treatment on him. She was creative in her methods which kept it interesting and very beneficial for my son. He is now 8 years old, and eats like a champ and I can understand him which is wonderful.Christopher Holder
Nancy has a depth of knowledge in the field of speech language pathology and oromyofunctional therapy that is very impressive and has been key in collaborative care with my patients and myself personally. I know that when I send a patient to Nancy they will be well educated after their consult and they will also be thoroughly assessed. Although she may be new to the current community she is in, she was a very well respected and established provider for our area even before I met her. She has strong ethics, and seeks to stay current in best practices. She is a great advocate for her patients and her profession. I am grateful to have worked very closely with Nancy.Dorothy Nelson DDS
I have had the pleasure of working in collaboration with Nancy over the past 20+ years. In addition to her depth of knowledge in myofunctional therapy as well as her clinical experience, what really sets her apart from others is her ability to connect with the patient and give clear and detailed instructions. Compliance is essential for success, and I appreciate Nancy’s ability to compassionately guide and encourage our mutual patients.Dr. Burleigh Surbeck, DDS, MSD
Our son has been a patient of Nancy's for 6 years, since he was 4 years old. She was the first person to identify Leo as likely having sleep apnea. Many other practitioners did not suspect it! She works extremely well with children when they are at an age when it’s difficult to sit for any period of time (especially with severe sleep apnea). We’d highly recommend Dr. Magar to any family considering care for their child.G.B.

In the world of myofunctional speech pathology, Nancy Magar is a guru and truly a one-of-a-kind practitioner. Her unique method of retraining the tongue and strengthening specific muscles in the mouth has worked wonders on both of my kids. She corrects the root of the problem for lifelong success. Prior to discovering Nancy, my daughter went to speech therapists and had very little improvement. After her first session with Nancy, we had a progressive plan for exactly how to achieve the outcome we wanted, and to make it stick. Nancy has so much education and experience that if a specific strategy isn’t working or is too advanced, she can quickly pivot to an alternative technique to accomplish the goal. Not to mention she is great with kids, as both of mine find all the games to be fun. I am grateful for our experience with Nancy, as my daughter now has perfectly clear speech, and my son is making great strides as one of her clients. Nancy is the only person I trust with a proven track record to get the results we want the first time, which is why even though she has relocated to Florida we maintain zoom sessions from Washington. Nancy Magar is hands down the best out there!Michelle Elperin
Choosing a capable therapist is a pivotal decision, one that requires discernment and confidence. From my experience as a release provider, I can unequivocally affirm that Nancy Magar is the epitome of professionalism, empathy, and expertise in the field of speech and language sciences including those services that extend into orofacial myofunctional therapy. Beyond her remarkable work with individual clients, Nancy also stands out for her collaborative approach in working with providers alike. Her dedication to fostering understanding and healing extends beyond the confines of traditional therapy sessions, as she actively engages with professionals in the field to promote best practices and enhance the quality of care provided. It is without doubt that some of our best patient outcomes were a direct result of the exceptional preparation and communication carried out from the beginning of treatment through the finish line.S. I have seen first-hand Nancy's unique ability to connect with the children she works with and identify the way in which they will learn and progress most effectively. My son would look forward to sessions and there's no doubt he was positively impacted by her warm and fun personality. She educated us on tongue placement, mechanics while making sounds and how to do the exercises. She explained his challenges and the path to resolving them. We are so thankful for our time with Nancy!S.M.
I have worked with Nancy since I began my pediatric dental practice 19 years ago. She was our trusted resource for helping children overcome nonnutritive habits such as thumb sucking and tongue thrust. As our practice evolved and we incorporated laser frenectomies in older children who had significant compromises in speech, breathing, sleep, and swallowing functions due to ankyloglossia, she was extremely helpful and professional in offering her experience in working with this age group. We could see wonderful results in the patients that we collaborated with together, and the families were very appreciative of the communication and team effort between us, the primary dental provider, and Nancy, the myofunctional specialist.Stephanie Su, DDS
I have had two children work with Ms. Nancy throughout the past 6 years. Her innovative and patient approach has helped both of my children navigate their severe tongue thrusts and complicated motor planning deficits. Nancy thinks outside the box and found alternative approaches when the traditional approach didn't work for my daughter's complicated case. I also appreciated Nancy's willingness to collaborate with our dentist and orthodontists. Nancy is the best in her field and we are grateful to have worked with her!Tessa H
Our son was born with a slight tongue tie impairment (shortened lingual frenum). This did not present a latching issue during infancy and was not generally observable. His speech was slightly impaired by a pattern using a lateral 'S' - speaking 'S' sounds out the side of his mouth rather than using the tongue near the 'spot'. At age 11, the tongue tie impairment was rediscovered during a checkup with his pediatric dentist. The pediatric dentist recommended myofunctional treatment prior to a Frenotomy. Nancy is an amazing myofunctional and speech therapist who has helped our son achieve remarkable results. She is knowledgeable, patient, and caring, and she tailored the therapy to his specific needs and goals. She taught him exercises and techniques that improved his breathing, tongue posture, swallowing, and articulation, and he enjoyed working with her every session. Nancy also provided us with clear instructions and feedback on how to support his progress at home. We are very impressed with the quality and effectiveness of her service, and we highly recommend her to anyone looking for a professional and experienced myofunctional and/or speech therapist.2024 - The Watkins Family
